X harness

A problem with lots of different chest harnesses is that any skilled eel would be able to ’shrug off’ the tie. This shoulder harness, though still possible to squirm out of, makes escape significantly harder.

Start with a running loop in the middle of the rope. Any running loop will do but pictured is a ring hitch.

Put both of your partners hands into the loop.

Slide the loop up your partners arms and over the shoulders. Settle it into place like a scarf.

Take the trailing ends of the rope and split them apart.

Bring each end around and under the armpits.

Cross the ropes in the center of the chest.

Bring the ends up and pass them both underneath the lines that are laying in front of each shoulder.

Bring the ends all the way through. Pull slightly to tighten up the harness.

Again, cross the ropes in the center of the chest. .

Bring each end back under the armpit and join together in back. From here the ends can be tied off, used for a wrist tie, or attached to another rope.
