Overhand cuff
This is a decorative cuff based on the overhand knot. It has an appearance somewhat like a rope shackle.
Start with the center of the rope. You do know how to find the center? right?
Make several wraps around the limb. Try to make it so both ends of the rope are of equal length.
Cross both ends. The left rope will come across over all the coils to the right side. The right rope will come across over all the coils to the left side. Yes you must do this step, otherwise the overhand knot in the next step will be ~backwards~ and the coils will not lay parallel.
Tie an overhand knot.
Note that there is a tiny gap in between the two ropes right at the very center of the overhand knot. Open this gap up so it becomes larger.
All the coils are now visible through the center of the overhand knot. Having all the coils in the “center” of the overhand knot is structurally the same as pulling the rope through the “center” of an overhand knot when tying a shamrock knot.
Lift up the coils through the center of the overhand knot and pass the left rope under all of them.
Tighten up carefully.
Lift up the coils through the center of the overhand knot and pass the right rope under all of them. Be sure not to cross over the rope you passed under the coils from the last step.
Tighten up carefully. The final cuff lays flat (mostly) and create a beautiful and symmetrical pattern.
