McCrown

So the japanese crown knot is too complex and you cant remember how to tie it? That’s ok, just use this “Americanized” version.

Remember that all parts of this knot are symmetrical. This tutorial shows it tied left to right and “right side up”. It can easily be tied the other way.

Take the left line and make an overhand knot. That was simple. Now just tie an overhand knot in the other line doing it “through” this overhand knot.

Pick up the end of the other line. On the knot already tied, notice that the bottom exits in front. Match this with the other line. (If the way you tied your overhand knot has the bottom exiting in back, place the end in back to match).

Pull the end through the overhand knot. On the knot already tied, notice that the top exits in back. Match this with the other line. (If the way you tied your overhand knot has the bottom exiting in front, place the end in front to match).

The end of the right rope will go around the standing part of the right rope. The last crossing had the end going in back, so match this by having the end go in back. (If the last crossing was in front for you, cross the end in front to match).

Tie an overhand knot.

You will now have two overhand knots linked together.

Tighten carefully.

The final knot has a square “box” shape that looks very similar to the japanese crown knot.
