Double coin (1 line)
This knot goes by several deferent names. Double coin knot. Carrick bend. Josephine knot.
From behind, bring the line between your thumb and index finger.
Wrap around your index and middle fingers.
Wrap around your middle and ring fingers.
Important step: Before moving on, bring the end behind the line next to your thumb. This is actually the first “under” of the under/over pattern.
Note that there are four lines across the top. One for every space between your fingers..
Here is where the over/under pattern becomes clear.
Over: line between little and ring finger.
Under: line between ring finger and middle finger.
Over: line between middle finger and index finger.
Under: line between index finger and thumb.
Now that the over/under pattern is done, the knot can be removed from your fingers. Grab everything from behind and pull up.
Note that there is a square in the exact center of the knot. Place a cylindrical object through this square and it will become a turks-head knot.
The finished knot has a decorative basket weave look. You can run lines through the loops at top, left, and right to make an interesting centerpiece for a chest harness.
