Crown cuff
Like using long ropes but hate to tie cuffs because you have to pull the ends through? Try this equalizing cuff that can be tied without using the ends of the rope.
Wrap a few coils around the limb you are tying. In the example shown, this divides the rope into an “left side” and a “right side”.
Take the working part of the rope on the right side and tuck it under the coils. This forms a bunny ear.
Do the same thing on the left side. Remember that these bunny ears go under ALL the coils, including the one that is the working part of the other side.
You will now have four sections of rope coming out of the cuff. From bottom working clockwise these are:
1)left working part
2)left bunny ear
3)right working part
4)right bunny ear
Take “1″ and pass it clockwise over the top of “2″ (MEMO: Don’t pull it tight just yet. Leave a gap for later).
Pass “2″ clockwise over “3″
Pass “3″ clockwise over “4″.
Pass “4″ clockwise coming back to “1″.
Because you didn’t pull tight back when you passed “1″ over “2″, there is now a little hole that you can pass “4″ through.
Tighten carefully into a neat pinwheel shape. This knot does tend to come apart under variable force pull so be sure to keep equal tension on both left and right working parts.
