Q: What is that one knot I saw you do where it just slides out making a string of overhand knots?
A: It is a Philadelphia knot.
Q: Are those actually your feet?
A: Yes
Q: What are those numbers you keep referencing when talking about knots?
A: They are the number the knot is given in ‘The Ashley Book of Knots’. A knot could go by several deferent names, or one name can be used for many deferent knots. Referencing a number simply cuts down on the confusion about what exactly is the knot I am talking about.
Q: Why do you keep using the expression bunny-ear? Don’t you know the correct term is bight?
A: It comes back again to the issue of cutting down on confusion. The experienced rope rigger understands what I am talking about anyway, but the average schmoe needs things dumbed down a bit to understand. (My apologies to any average schmoe reading this).
