Preteen Lolita Russian Asian Dogfuck Gangbang Oral Anal Illegal Hardcore Sex
I have been talking with various people about this commercial for Ikea that is banned from television in the united states. Some sentiment I have heard expresses an outrage that American culture is so uptight and prudish that it would ban a commercial such as this.
There just one problem with this opinion. The commercial isn’t baned.
A different edit of the commercial shows a line in a foreign language at the end. Possibly French. As Ikea is an international company, it wouldn’t be that surprising if this was just a commercial that aired in that country. The reason the commercial never showed up on American television is because it wasn’t marketed to the states, not that it was baned from the states.
Same could be said for another commercial that bills itself as benign baned. But this one isn’t in English at all, clearly indicating it was never intended for American audiences. Again, it is most likely French.
Now I myself don’t own a television and haven’t in over 4 years. So its difficult for me to confirm or deny if this commercial has or has not played on American television. However, posts from forums and bulitian boards that turn up in google-search on the topic seem to indicate they have played on American television, but only in “funny commercials from around the world†comedy specials. If the commercials truly were baned, they would not be approved for inclusion in these specials.
So why label them as baned? Well, there might be a few reasons.
One reason is that people in alt-sex communities love to paint themselves as the underdog. The kneejerk reaction to anything sexual in the media is to assume that either a) it makes us look bad or b) the conservative religious right oppresses it. So slapping a label of ‘baned commercial’ on these might just be the result of someone assuming that they just had be baned.
Now if you have been reading here for any length of time, you know that I can realy get irked with these boy-who-cried-wolf accusations of oppression. Not to say that there aren’t busy bodies out to complain about anything they can. Heck, earlier this month there was an uproar over a Sony PSP ad shown in the Netherlands. The fury came not from the Netherlands itself, but from (you guessed it) a Californian politician. But I do tend to find that a lot of panic that sexual themed topics are baned in America are just false alarms.
However, in the case of these Ikea ads being labeled as ‘baned’, I don’t think that label comes from an assumption of oppression. The word most likely wound up there just to boost search rankings. Surest way to get people to flock to you is to claim that what your showing is hidden and forbidden.
And old episode of the web comic Ghastly Comic focused on this effect of adding in attention grabbing titles to file names. The two main characters (both of them tentacle rape monsters) get in an argument when one of them downloads a file labeled Preteen Lolita Russian Asian Dogfuck Gangbang Oral Anal Illegal Hardcore Sex ChiPs Episode #214. One of them insures the other that this is simply an old episode of ‘ChiPs’ and that the other descriptors are meaningless. Hilarity ensues when they discover the descriptors are right on target.
Hilarity might ensue when I discover these ‘baned’ labels that keep getting tacked onto Ikea commercials are right on target. But I seriously have my doubts.
As long as Im mentioning Ghastly Comic, they had their own problems with advertising. For three years they showed comic strips depicting tentacle rape, sex with parrots, sex with teddy bears, sex with a plate of linguine, castration, public masturbation, sex on top of coin operated rides in front of wallmart, sex *WITH* coin operated rides in front of wallmart, man-on-man action between Fred and Shaggy from Scooby Doo, anal yiffing, and the Pope giving a transsexual a blowjob. The whole time this was being shown, their advertising sponsor hardly batted an eye. But what cause them to finally loose their sponsorship was an image of missionary position sex between husband and wife for the purpose of procreation. Check em out.
