Throwing in the towel
The Christopher Handley trial came to an end a few weeks ago with a guilty plea. The reacting from the alt-sex comunity was its usual self. Consisting mostly of people jamiong their fingers in their ears, squinting their eyes shut, and screaming ‘MILLER TEST! MILLER TEST! MILLER TEST!’ at the top of their lungs.
The trial is dang near a perfect setup for my usual ripping apart. There is a heck of a lot more going on to the casew than the overused stuck-in-a-rut talking point arguments about ‘but who defines obscene’. But the motovation to go into a full out deconstyruction just hasent been in me.
Since childhood, I have been the person who always wanted to take things apart because I wanted to find out how they worked. So I see something like the Christopher Handley case I begin asking stuff. What was the law he was charged under. WHen was that law put into efect? How was the material discovered? Was there ever a search warent to open his mail? What spicificly was the name of the comic in question? Are there sample scans from it that I could look at and judge for myself if they were or wernt obscene?
None of those questions are ever raised in the ‘Dear god! We are living in a puriticinal police state’ panic atack style news reports. And when I dig into stories like this its never as how it is originaly presented (and in some cases is the exact oposite). For example, the current wikipedia article mentioning Christopher Handley says in summary ‘in 2007 John McCain introduced a bill and right after that the comic book legal defence fund got involved in the Christopher Handley trial.’ Sensatalionist. The bill was introduced AFTER Christopher Handley arrest. It never made it out of commeett. And even if it had, the bill they cite was only relating to stuff transmited on the internet, not stuff sent through the postal mail like in the Christopher Handley case.
Im sure that if I spent more time researching it, there would be even more crap like that to debunk. But the fight has totaly gone out of me. Whats the point in putting all that effort into ripping apart the same old fearmongering of an overarching puriticinal police state when that information is getting lost in an endless ocean of ‘Evil christians are about to break down your bedroom door! Sexual freedom is at risk and this case proves it’.

Lately I have just wanted to give up ….. scrap the whole blog, archive it, and redesign this website as purely just a bondage tutorial place. The effort I go to in order to express my thoughts and make my opinions heard are just shouted into the void.
Maybee I wouldent be so demorilized if people wernt typcasting me as the exact oposite of the person I am. Not long ago a nationaly known bondage educator aproached me with the idea of setting up a website to promote unity and consolidation in the kink comunity and they asked if I could lead it and orgnize it. They seemed genualy suprised when I tried to explain to them that I wasent the ‘unity and orgnization’ guy they assumed I was. Recently I had a board member of the NCSF aproach me and asking if we could be bestest buddies. When I rejected them, they seemed honestly baffled, as if they were totaly unaware that I have been a frequently and vocal critic of the NCSF for many years.
People are going to believe what they are predisposed to believe. That includes instances where the word ‘porn’ and ‘court’ both happen in the same setence. And it also happens to me as an indvidual. And no amount of me running my mouth is going to change their preconceptions.
