Gor! Good God, y’all. What is it good for, absolutely nothing
Time for me to live up to my reputation as a heretic.
Kink newsgroups and forums are working themselves into a frenzy over recent news that a canidian court will hear a case involving discrimination againt BDSM. Naturaly this set off a whole round of panic atacks that claimed anyone and everyone who was kinky at all was about to be rounded up and hauled off to a fenced in concentration camp.
On the surface, the case involves a guy who was tryign to get a job as a limo driver. As such, he needed to change his drivers license from a standard permit, to a ‘profesional’ permit. He goes down to the licens burer to have it changed only to have the official there deniy him a permit. Sure seams like a case of discrimination? Dont it?
But it set off warnign bells for me. Even people who are bigioted againt kinksters usualy dont come right out and say it. They justify their hatred inder a layer of freaudian rationalization. But the article making the rounds through the kink comunity dosent say what the officials ratrionalization was. Maybee since he likes hurting people he might hurt his pasangers. Maybee since he likes bondage he would have a dificult time driving the car while in handcuffs and would be a public menace on the roads. Maybee since he likes giving orders he wouldent be willing to take directions from his pasangers?
So I google for a minute or two and turn up another article that does give the reasoning behind the bdsm discrimination. Turns out it wasent because of his sexuality after all. There was a report on file from a few years back acusing him of leading a religious cult.
Now a discrimination case on religion I could easily see. But Im having a hard time wraping my mind around a discrimination case involving sexual orientation. Especialy since damn near every gorian who has ever prostolized to me has insisted that gor isnt about sex, but is rather a philosophical school of thought.
Im realy not a fan of gorians. People wishing to call me a facist natzi who is worse that hitler, please take a number and file to the left. People who wish to enlighten me to the truth of gorians thinking that will stop my predjuces let me address yoru issue now.
Arguments that I have just had a bad first impresion of gorians because I have seen them in chatrooms and if I would only open my mind to the people who do gor real life, then I would understand, those arguments just dont hold water. I dont have any problem at all with gor chatrooms online. Just as I have no problem with furries or ponygirls or crossdressers. I justview them as folks who want to ‘dress up’ and step outside their everyday life for a while. Nothign wrong with that. I do that sort of stuff myself.
But its the offline gorians that give me pause. The ones who say that what they do is not roleplaying. The guiding principal is that there is a ‘natures way’ and that only by folowing what you were truely ment to be can you know inner peace. Going againt what you were truely ment to be is thesource of all suffering and grief.
Sure sounds religious to me. By rejecting the way that jesus had planed for us in the garden of eden, thus comes original sin and the source of all human suffering. Folowing the nobel eight fold path is what the buddah taught that we were destend for, and by rejecting that path suffering is intriduced into our lives. To foloow the will of alah is what humans are ment to do, and only be rejhecting his way does suffering happen.
Now admitidly gor dosent teach anythign abotu the afterlife, or the creation of the cosmos. But neither do some other quazi-religious orgnizations. Objectivism teaches that there is a fixed universal order that is the natural way, and that happyness is gained from folowing the natural order of things. Objectivism is at least a quazi-religion and is absoutly a moralistic pholosophy on par with confusinism.
And Objectivism can reach cult proportions. Cults dont nessasaraly have to be religious based. There have even been some Amway cells that have gone into cult mindset due to their agresive recuting methods and hidden teachings but Amway certinaly isnt a religion.
Now wether or not this gorian in canada who was denied a permit is a cult leader is somethign yet to be determined. But thats a question that is much more approperate to ask than if he was denied equal employement oportunity based on his sexuality.
