On the 8th day he had to explain what the first 7 were about

The blibical story of creation put forth in the book of genisis is not literaly true. But to understand what it is actualy about it needs to be set into historical context.

The piticular location in the mideast where the creation story was first writen has long been a hotbed of political action. There are the persians, the romans, the greeks, the edgyptians, even the norse, all had a share in shaping the political climat. Each of them had their own gods they worshped and when two groups clashed the winer claimed braging rights that their god was more powerful.

So there are these goat hearders living out in the desert. No political might at all. How on earth could they claim their god was more powerful than the gods of these other groups? By simply negating the existance of those other groups.

The persians and the egeptians had a god of the sky. Genisis says the sky is not god, but rather just somethign god made. Romans and  norse had gods of the sea. But the ocean is not god, it is just something god made. And so on and so on for each item in genisis god made. The sun isnt a go, its just somethign god made. Plants and fish are not gods, only somethign god made.

And most importantly was the sixth day when god made man. The edgyptian pharo had a lot of pull over this piticular group of goat hearders out in the desert. But genisis taught that the edgyprian pharo was not a god. He was a man and like all men were only something that god created.

So what about the 7th day when god didnt make anything? Well, thats where the babaloians come in. The babaolian creation myth breaks down into 6 days of creation and one of rest. At the time, it woudl be a story that most folks in that reagon would already know. So genisis is realy just a political satire poking fun at thebabaolian parthonon.

Now here is the catch, this all was told to me by a baptist minister.

Well we all know those durn evil christians have their own agenda to push. There is no way I woudl be able to trust someone that involved in the bible to actualy give any meaningful comment on the bible? Right? He obviously must have been lying because he has some sneeky underhanded plot that he is caring out. Right? Right?

Well, not actualy. Who is going to know more abotu the bible than someone who works with it every day? The average joe on the street isnt going to know or understand the historical aspect of the babaolian chreation mythos. Only someone who studies the bible is going to be that well informed on the topic.

When washington sets energy policy they talk to the heads of energy companys. But who is going to know more abotu energy? For labor policy talk you would probably want to talk with the head of a union or two. For public health policy you are sure to talk to a doctoror two. So why not ask an energy expert for advice on energy? But in political circles energy companys are ‘the enemy’ and are not to be trusted. Just as in the alt-sex comunity the christians are ‘the enemy’ and are not to be trusted.

There is a danger in assuming that the people most informed on a topic are not to be trusted because they have an agenda to push. Cause the same argument can be used againt the alt-sex comunity. If your making law regarding pornography, wouldent it make sense to talk to the head of a porn studio? Yet everythign from CDA to COPA to 2257 has flown past without consulting the porn industry in the slightest. Why would they? After all, the pon producers are ‘just pushing their adgenda’ so any advice they give on porn law would be suspect. Right?
