The man in black
I dont like talking about myself personaly. But it seems to be what most folks like reading. So here is a story of somethign that happened to me back in college.
One day I was at the libary when a guy comes over and sits down beside me. Im focused on schoolwork so I dont pay much attention to him untill I hear him blurt out ‘Hey! Your one of those pagans? Arnt you?’
I turn to see a guy staring at me in wonder and facination with his mouth slightly agape. From the university logo stiched into his blue overalls I figured he was a janitor. Now I helped out for a few years with the student pagen orgiznation serving as an officer for a while despide the fact that my own faith would be better described as ‘other’ instead of ‘pagen’. Once a month there was a meating for the group in the student union building that I would alwaysbe seen comming in and out of. So I assume he had just seen me comming in and out of one of the meatings.
I wanted to help the uneducated public at large overcome their misconceptions and bigotry toward minority faiths, so I do my best to address his questions. We talk for a while. No pagans dont drink blood at their religious cermonies. No pagans dont worship the devil. No pagans dont sacfrice animals in a pentgram under a fool moon.
And then he asked ‘So whats the deal with the black? Why are you dressed in black.’ I looked down. I was dressed all in black. This is somethign quite rare for me as my trend is toward hawian print shirts. But I at the time I did own a single pair of black pants and a single black shirt and one pair of black boots. It was just random chance that on the one day this guy sits down next to me is the one day that my black clothes are the ones I happen to throw on that morning.
So are you offended about how closeminded some people can be? Well you would be right. But it wasent him being closeminded toward me. It was me being closeminded toward him. What? You didnt see it? Go back and read again.

Didnt see it? Thats fine. I didnt either untill years and yead later. First of all, I never saw him emptering trashcans or sweeping the floor. The only thing that made me think he was a janator was his blue overalls with the university logo. I made a judgement of him based only on his clothing
Second, now that I have assumed he was a janator, all other assumptions tumbel out with it. Blue collar. Lowbrow. Loves clasic rock. This Jeff Foxworthy is actualy funny. How could he posibly understand paganism. Sheeple. Havent you ever seen the movie Joe Dirt? There is no way some shlub like him can be educated and worldly enough to be accepting and openminded toward paganism. Of corse he is a hatemonder that just is againt anyone who is difrent than them. I in my enlightened state, must clue him in to the truth.
As I have siad before, sexual liberation has bigotry inherent in it that flows both ways. For everyone pointing toward some sexual minority and yelling ’sicko’ there is the sexual minority pointing a finger in the other direction yelling ‘facist’. I shpoudl know a bit about steriotypes that paint blue collar workers in a negitive light. I live in pittsburgh.
Altsex blogs and newsgroups are working themselves into a froth over news reports this week of a woman on a leash that had a run in with a bus driver. Now I have writen before abotu issues regarding kinksters being lead on a leash in public.
The reaction has been fierce. Oh my god, it was a BUS DRIVER. You know what those blue collar working stiff types are like. They just live in their own little bubble and they are againt anything and everyone who is difrent than them. They probably even live in a red state. Its clearly a case of oppression and discrimination. People like that are such hatemongers. Alwas judging others and pidgenholing them. Stupid lowbrow sheeple.

One reason I left one of our local and large Kinky groups was over stereotyping. There was a loud faction in the group that simply could not, or would not, understand that, oh yes, there were such things as Conservative (egads!–say it isn’t so!),Republican, whips and chains type, Kinksters.
After a while, I could not help but feel unwelcome, even at the Munchies, which were quite large. The group has prospered and grown, and I wish them well, but just without me.

Often I have observed the efect, even if not directed toward me personally.
You cant possibly be bi. Your just young and confused and havent figured out what you are yet. ….. What do you mean you are a switch? People are either top or both but they cant be both ….. How can you be a fetishist? Isnt all of kink based on power exchange?
So yeah, it dosen’t surprise me that someone would get pigeonholed into one particular political philosophy as well. For all the effort BDSMers put into patting themselves on the back about how open minded they are, I have witnessed more stereotyping in the kink community than I ever have by vanillas.
