First they came for Crocodile Dundee and I did nothing
Crocodile Dundee was based on a real person. His name was Rodney Ansell. Hes dead. Killed in a shootout with police. Headlines said that he woke up one day and just snaped. Nobody ever ever ever ‘just snapes’. The warning signs are there is you know how to look for them.
It started in 1988 with a program by the austrilian government to get rid of Brucellosis in livestock. Thousands of head of cattel were eleminated, including three thousand owned by Ansell. The government just came in and took his property. The excuse was that it was for the public good.
Now stuck with no way of operating his ranch at a profet, Ansell fell onto hard times. Unemployed, he hunted small game for food just to get by. Then the tax man came. He was forced into selling his property to raise funds. But hey, its for the public good. Right? Everyone has to pay their fair share.
Then the austrialian government started crackign down hard on gun ownership. A panic induced ‘please won’t someone think of the children’ reaction to the Port Arthur massacre. The two high-powred rifles that Ansell had were now iligeal. When a fight with his neighbor brought the cops out, he paniced. The government had taken away his cattel. the government had taken away his land. The government was NOT goign to take away his guns.
He fired off a few shots at the police and then sliped out the back door and into the bush. A search was conducted, but it was obvious nobody was going to find a trained and highly experenced bushman in a tetiory that large. Ansell could survice out there for decades if he had to. Police were dismantling a roadblock (why block the road if the guy is on foot?) when all of a sudden Ansell burst forth from the wilderness with guns blazing. Police returned fire.
Suicide by cop? Maybee.
And then, quietly, in August of 2007, all pornography in Austrialis Northern Tetiory became iligeal. Anyone with 5 or more videos faced a prision term. Mandatory government issued filtering software was forced onto internet service providers and home computers. All in responce to a report on the efects of porn that was titled (oh god how I wish I was making this shit up) the ‘The Little Children are Sacred‘ report.
So is it realy much of a suprise when the united kingdom pushes for a ban on violent pornography? A nation with restrictive gun laws and stupid taxes. A nation that destroyed all of its cattel in an effort to combat desease. A nation set into panic over the murder of Jane Longhurst demanding that ‘there should be a law’ as if there wernt already laws againt murder.
Advocates for sexual freedom love to quote the ‘First they came’ thing by Martin Niemöller. Every porn law that springs up the argument gets pulled out that the government must be stoped now while its still early. If they take away the rights of sexual miniorities then whos next? If we all dont speak up now, then it will be too late once more restrictive opresion kicks in.
It saddens me to know that sexual rights advocates are so egotistical and self centred that they think they are the first group that ever was on the reciving end of government opresion.
