What you can do about the 70-80 year loop
History repeats itself.
Every 70-80 years public debate on sexuality hits a peek. Alternitive sexuality reaches the point where it is most open. With it, oposition to alternitive sexuality is the most in the open. Between these peeks, public debate tapers off and sexuality is moved back into the privacy of the bedroom.
Currently we are on a downward slope. We are currently living in a society that is neither the most open in history nor the most represive in history in its atatude toward sexual topics. But it is shrinking. The reflexive instinct of activists is to fight this. So much progress has been made over the past few decades and it would be a tragedy to see all those advancements fall apart.
The first reaction is to turn toward politics. This wont work. This loop has been going on at least since the 15th century. Trivia time! Was it the republicans or the democrats who were in control of the white house in the 15th century? Since politics is not the driving force behind the 70-80 year loop, then causing a chang in politics is not going to have any efect on the driving mechinism behind the rise and decline of sexual openness.
The next reaction is that everythign would turn out just fine we would all just take a level of ranger to get access to Favored Enemy (Evil Christians) and then all of us team up and destroy them all outright. But pervert-hating christians and christian-hating perverts arenot oposites. They share the same peeks and vallys. Its not that one comes to the front and pushes back the opther, only to be pushed back itself halfway through the loop. They rise together. They fall together. If the rapture comes and all christians simitiunalious vanish, that still wouldent have any impact on the driving mechinism behind the rise and decline of sexual openness.
The next reaction is to attempt to ‘get the word out’. Knoledge is power. People fear what they dont understand. If only we coudl inform the public about the truth of alternitive sexuality, then it would not fall into decline. But the peek is when talking about sex openily is the default norm. What more could posiably be said durring the declain than what was already screamed through bullhones in the street durring the peek? Getting up in peoples faces about sexual topics is not the driving force behind the 70-80 year loop, so changing visibility isnt going to have any impact either.
The driving force is lifespan. As those who lived through a peek or lull all die off, those being born come into a world of nothing but people who are oposite. They rebell againt what they see around them. And since those dying off are not around to be seen any more, they take up the torch.
Imposible you say? Lifespan hasent always been 70-80 years. If this loop actualy existed back to the 15th century then the loops would have been the size of 40 or so years because that was the average human lifespan. Well, thats not quite true. The average lifespan was so low because of infiant mortality rates. If half the people died at the age of 80 and half died before turnign one year old, then the ‘average’ is 40 years. But this dosent meen that people were dying at 40 years old, leaving a void to be filled by the new generation. Lifespan is not going up. Infiant mortality is going down. The normal lifespan has always been 70-80 years even if the ‘average’ has been growing.
So what can be done? How can we preserve all the progress of sexual awarness that has gone on since the sexual revolution of the 60s? How can the downward decline be halted?
It cant.
You can no more change the ebb and flow of sexual awarness than you can change the ebb and flow of the tides. History marches on with uphevles ticking out at regular intervels. WHat can be done is to not view the decline in sexual openness as a bad thing, but rather see it as a rise in sexual privacy being a good thing. But this is only a tempaory solution as sexual privacy will eventualy peek and then you face tyhe same problem over again about how your favored view is going into decline.
Those who do not know thier history are doomed to repeat it. Those who do know their history are dooomed to watch helplessly as it is repeated around them.
