VD as part of the 70-80 year loop

History repeats itself.

Every 70-80 years there is a upheavel. 9/11. The Great Depresion. The Civial War. The american Revolution. The Glorious Revolution. The Armada Crisis. The war of the roses. Imideatily before this time, sexual expresion hits a peek (as does oposition to it). Imideatily after this time, sexual expresion hits a low (as does oposition to it.)

At the start of the 20th century, syphilis was a big problem. Syphilis killed. There wasent a cure. There wasent even a test. And because having syphilis was a sure sign you cheeted on your spouce, people were reluctant to talk about it openly.

But doctors came to the rescue. A big outbreak of syphilis in the 1870s drove research. In 1906 came the first efective test. The Wassermann test. In 1908 came the first efective treatement. Salvarsan. Suddenly syphilis wasent so scary any more. So with this removed as a major concern to health, whats the first thing people did?

Thats right. Sex with strangers. The flapper era came roaring in with their newfound sexual freedom. Just get yourself tested regularaly, and if you do happen to catch something, just pop on over to the local doctor for a fast cure. Sex without consequences.

But some doctors wernt so thrilled about this new sexual freedom. There was something dangerous lurking out on the horizion. Somethign they didnt quite understand. Caused by this new discovery of something called a ‘virus’. It was herpes. Concerned, doctors went to the petting parties where the youth driven culture were engaging in sex with a high number of partners and tried to spread warning.

The reaction was predictabal. The doctors were called fearmonders and prudes. They were just stuck on an old fastion and outdated sence of moralitry. How dare they try and push off their views of sex onto the younger generation. This idea of a sexual transmited desease that had no cure was just a scare tactic to try and trick them into abandoning their sexual freedom.

Fast foward a few years when Herpes had riped through an entire comunity. Doctors were still catching hell, but for a totaly difrent reason. See, they were still prudes who hated any alternitive views of sex. But it was now clear that they hadent done enough. Doctors knew what a danger it was, but had sat by doing nothing because they wanted to see people ‘pinished’ for their imoral and wicked ways.

Let me say that again. At the start, it was those damn evil christians that were at fault cause they were tryign to get others to stop having so much sex. At the end, it was those damn evil christians that were at fault cause they wern’t tryign to get others to stop having so much sex. That make sence to you? Nope, me either.

Sounds a lot like AIDS? Dont it?

Antiviral drugs were created in the 1960s. The first of them were to treat herpes. Together with antibiotics, Veneral Desease was cured. Yippie! Sex without conciquences returns. But wait! Thers a new desease comming up fast and we dont understand it fully yet. Shut up old timer! Woops, turns out the old timers were right. Well its still their fault because they didnt sound the warnign bells early enough.

History repeats itself.
